Pluto, the great excavator, entered Capricorn firmly in 2008 and has remained there, with a couple of short dips into Aquarius in 2023 and 2024. It will begin its long 20 year tour of Aquarius in the third week of November 2024. Since Pluto changes signs infrequently (about every 20 years), this is a significant shift. Nobody in our lifetime has experienced Pluto in Aquarius, as the last time was in the late 1700s, during the French Revolution. Pluto changing signs marks a generational shift, and we can already feel the underpinnings of this with the advancement of AI and a sense that we stand on the precipice of major changes in how we connect and live our lives. Be ready for big changes, fellow humans.

Pluto, associated with the underworld, symbolizes exposure of what is hidden beneath the surface. Its energy is unsettling, forcing transformation through the confrontation of uncomfortable truths. Capricorn, an Earth sign connected with hierarchy, tradition, and structure, reflects systems tied to resources, money, and governance. As we transition out of Pluto's time in Capricorn, we can reflect on significant societal shifts, such as the housing market bailouts, the Covid-19 pandemic and its fallout, and the revelations from Wikileaks. Furthermore, this era has revealed how power dynamics have been exploited within the entertainment industry and celebrity culture, where Pluto's influence demanded that hidden truths be brought to light.

The Abuse of Power in Elite Spaces

In North America's elite cultural spaces, fame is coveted, individuals are placed on pedestals, and as Pluto in Capricorn has revealed, there is extreme abuse of power. Fame is tantalizing, but as many who achieve it admit, it is a double-edged sword. Chappell Roan has entered the chat.

Between 2008 and now, we’ve witnessed the exposure of the dark underworld within the hierarchies of wealth, fame, and social power. Mostly men, particularly those with power, wealth, and influence, have been shown to use their positions in despicable ways. Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein exploited their power and connections to manipulate and abuse women. Bill Cosby is no longer just the wholesome TV father figure he once was, and R. Kelly is no longer simply the voice behind the inspirational ballad "I Believe I Can Fly." Even Prince Andrew was linked to Epstein’s trafficking ring and sexual abuse of minors. Pluto's energy unearths and exposes—and it certainly did during this era.

The #MeToo Movement: Pluto’s Exposure in Action

The #MeToo movement is perhaps the most powerful example of Pluto in Capricorn’s influence. Through social media, survivors shared their truths, exposing abuses by powerful individuals behind closed doors. The movement revealed a toxic, systemic underworld, where hierarchy protected abusers and enabled exploitation, with little accountability.

Capricorn is tied to systems, history, and structure, and Pluto’s transit through this sign forced us to confront how deeply flawed those systems were. During this time, wealthy and powerful people were imprisoned or publicly disgraced, and we saw some truth emerge about the abuse of power within elite structures.

Even as Pluto's time in Capricorn comes to an end, the trend of exposure continues. Recently, Sean Combs—also known as P. Diddy, and other aliases—was charged with racketeering and sex trafficking. While these abuses are not new—nor confined to celebrities—Pluto in Capricorn brought them to greater collective awareness.

Transformation and Hope

There’s a myth about Hercules attempting to kill the Hydra by cutting off its many heads, only to find they kept growing back. In the end, the only way to slay the Hydra was by exposing it to the light. Similarly, Pluto’s mission is to reveal the unfiltered truth of the underworld and confront us with the darkness beneath the surface.

As Pluto’s time in Capricorn ends, there are signs of progress in the entertainment industry. Power is shifting—away from exploitative business and toward genuine artists reclaiming their creative platforms. There is beauty in this transformation, as authenticity and creativity hopefully take precedence over profit and exploitation.

The Pluto-in-Capricorn era has been one of reckoning, exposure, and painful truths. But with every confrontation comes the possibility for renewal. As we move into Pluto's time in Aquarius, we have a chance to embrace mindfulness, innovation, and better social awareness.

There is hope in transformation—a chance to rebuild systems with greater integrity and create art with meaning and purpose. Through light and truth, beauty emerges from the shadows.
